Rabid Bat Discovered in Brevoort Park

This week, a bat in Brevoort Park tested positive for rabies, highlighting the importance of protecting pets and the community. Rabies is fatal but preventable with proper precautions.

Key Information:

  • Primary Carriers in Saskatchewan: Bats and foxes.
  • Warning Signs: Wild animals acting unusually tame or approachable, like bats found indoors or easily caught.

Protect Your Pets:

  • Ensure your pet’s rabies vaccinations are current.
    • Schedule: First vaccine as a puppy/kitten, a booster one year later, then every 1–3 years.
  • Rabies prevention for pets is the best defense, as there’s no treatment for animals post-exposure.

Local Concerns:

  • Nine rabies cases in Saskatchewan this year, all from bats.
  • Most human rabies cases stem from contact with household pets.

Let’s keep Brevoort Park safe. Stay vigilant, vaccinate your pets, and report suspicious animal behavior to local authorities. Together, we can prevent the spread of rabies.
